Music Class
A K-6 music curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate musical education for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The curriculum aims to foster students' creativity, appreciation for music, and understanding of musical concepts. It typically encompasses various musical activities, experiences, and learning objectives tailored to each grade level.

End of Course Outcomes
The students will:

Experience, recognize, respond to, read, notate, perform, and create rhythms and rhythmic patterns in a variety of meters

Experience, recognize, respond to, read, notate, perform, and create melodic patterns

Experience, respond to, and perform a variety of musical textures and harmonic structures

Experience, recognize, identify, and explain aspects of musical form

Recognize, identify, and respond to expressive elements of music, including dynamics, tempo, and articulation, and will perform music with appropriate expressive qualities

Experience, recognize, and respond to a variety of instrumental and vocal timbres.

Experience and respond to music of various styles and genres from a variety of world cultures, including music of the classical Western tradition;

Respond to musical experiences and create movement, using developmentally appropriate movement and dramatization

objectives.
Grading
Students will be given a grade in music each class period. Grades will be determined by the following:

Lesson Activities - Showing mastery of curriculum standards and objectives with:

Daily objectives (singing, dancing, playing instruments, demonstrating rhythm skills and other curriculum based activities)

Informal assessments

Formative assessments (usually written assessments)

Progress Activities – Showing progress towards meeting curriculum standards and objectives with:

Class work activities (worksheets, games, dances)

Group performances that show newly learned and practiced skills.
3. Participation and Effort

Students are expected to participate and show effort in all activities to the best of their ability.
Quarterly progress indicators in demonstrating skills and content taught in music are:

5= Fully Achieves Standards 4 & 5 = O (Outstanding)

4 = Meets Basic Standards 2 & 3 = S (Satisfactory)

3 = Learning Standards 0 & 1 = N (Needs Improvement)

2 = Progressing Towards Standards
