Physical Education

Elementary Physical Education (PE) is a vital part of the elementary school curriculum that focuses on promoting physical fitness, motor skills development, and overall health for young children typically in grades kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade. The primary goal of elementary PE is to foster a positive attitude towards physical activity and encourage a lifelong commitment to staying active.

End of Course Outcomes

 

  • Students will become successful in movement and spatial awareness and be able to Show good sportsmanship. Be a team player and be compassionate.
     

  • Students will learn proper nutrition and hygiene and skills for lifelong good health.
     

  • Students will learn possible outcomes of situations and make good decisions

  • Students will learn the importance of daily exercise for lifelong good health.

Physical Education

 

Fitness:

​

  • General conditioning consisting of stretching, cardio-vascular activities, locomotor and non locomotor skills, spatial awareness. Strength training. Jumping rope, hula hooping.

  • Tag/chase/running activities.

  • Capture the flag

​

Sports:

​

  • Proper throwing and catching activities. Games: ex.  Hula hut knockdown, dodgeball for upper level grades.

  • Basketball skills: ex.  dribbling, passing, shooting. Lead-up games.

  • Learning rules and good sportsmanship

  • Proper kicking skills: ex. Soccer dribbling, passing, trapping, kicking goals

  • Playing soccer

  • Kickball.

  • Wiffle Ball, batting, catching, throwing

 

Health:

​

  • Grades 3-6 Botvin Health series

  •  

  • Hygiene: ex. Hand washing, germ spreading, personal hygiene, teeth brushing, and the importance of sleep.

  •  

  • Food: food pyramid, go,slow and whoa foods, food allergies.

  •  

  • Kindness, good sportsmanship, empathy/sympathy

 

Drug dangers-ex .don’t touch, don’t taste, ask first. Why animals don’t smoke.
